Which? Broadband ISP satisfaction
survey

Broadband ISP satisfaction - Which? survey 15,000
internet users (09/08/05)
Which? have just published results of a
member survey examining ISP satisfaction amongst 15,538 UK internet users, the
full results being published in their August edition (available now). With a
bewildering array of broadband deals now available, this enlightening article
is excellent reading for the remainder of UK internet users who have yet to
take advantage of the faster surfing speeds and other benefits that broadband
can offer.
This article, focusing on ISP satisfaction, offers eight
'best buy' broadband recommendations, references 14 further broadband providers
and mentions just one 'don't buy' broadband provider. Whilst not detailing the
exact criteria of the survey, the article does suggest overall high standards
within the 'Best Buy' section, with a focus on customer satisfaction, customer
service, ease of set-up, connection speed, reliability and technical
support.
Which? broadband 'Best Buy' recommendations result from the
percentage of users who were very satisfied with their broadband provider.
These were: Metronet, Freedom 2 Surf, Zen Internet, Nildram, Waitrose, Eclipse,
PlusNet and Force 9. The article concluded Metronet as the overall 'Best Buy',
with 91% of those Metronet users surveyed falling within the 'very satisfied'
category, although it might be worth noting that Metronet users only amounted
to 0.43% of the total survey group.
In light of the last few weeks of
negative press for Bulldog Broadband, it is interesting to see that with a
sample size of just 55, just 36% of this group were 'very satisfied', whilst
BT's sample size of 2,839 showed a lesser 'very satisfied' rate at only 34%.
And as NTL publish news of their soon to be launched 10Mb cable broadband
service, it is interesting that Which concludes their service as a 'Don't Buy'
with only 19% of the 1,883 NTL broadband sample falling within the 'very
satisfied' category.
Dial
Up
For those internet users opting for Dial up access, Which? have
also published satisfaction ratings for Dial-up ISP's, with Waitrose, Claranet
and Demon attaining 'Best Buy' recommendations and AOL, BT Yahoo Anytime,
Tiscali, Wanadoo and NTL failing to make the grade. NTL was the only ISP rated
well below average, although it's ISP service did not rate as badly as it's
broadband one!
