25th July 2005:
Lumison Lumison announce 72,000 downloads per hour of
Everyman cancer awareness campaign
Lumison, the internet host of
www.rachelgetsfruity.com the cheeky cancer awareness
campaign, is experiencing 72,000 downloads an hour on the site.
Fronted
by Rachel Stevens, who rolls plums provocatively to encourage men to sit-up and
take notice of the warning signs of testicular cancer, hit rates for the
campaign have surpassed all expectations. Within 10 days of launch, the site
had 500,000 hits, at which point campaign managers realised the need for a
bigger and better website host.
Commenting on the campaign that is
hosted by Lumison, CEO Aydin Kurt-Elli said: We are delighted to support a
cause so worthy and to see the campaign is experiencing so much interest. Hits
of this magnitude are unprecedented in terms of an awareness raising campaign
and we are proud to have the power and technical ability, in terms of bandwidth
and service, to support Rachel in her quest for men to put their hands down
their trousers.
About Everyman
The Everyman Campaign was
set up by the charity The Institute of Cancer Research to raise awareness of
male cancers (particularly testicular and prostate cancer) and to fund vital
research within the UK's first dedicated male cancer research centre - the
everyman centre. The Institute of Cancer Research launched Everyman in
September 1997 to highlight the issue of male cancers and to raise money to
establish the UK's first dedicated male cancer research
centre.
Testicular cancer is the most common cancer to affect young men
between the ages of 20 and 35. Cases have almost doubled in the last twenty
years yet a MORI poll revealed men are dangerously ignorant with 84% men
knowing little or nothing about it. This type of cancer is 96% curable if
detected in the early stages, thanks to the treatment that The Institute of
Cancer Research developed in our unique partnership with The Royal Marsden
Hospital.
