What is ADSL broadband?

ADSL from ISL provides you with ‘always on’ access to the Internet at high speeds. There are a range of broadband solutions you can choose from, depending on the speed at which you want to send and receive information.

Asynchronous Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL)

ADSL runs at a variety of speeds, which are dependant upon your requirements. Entry levels of the service run at a data rate of up to 512Kbps, while the top end of the technology can run at up to 2Mbps. Upload speeds run at a maximum data rate of 250Kbps. Upload and download speeds may be reduced by usage during peak times, line quality and exchange distance.

Micro-filters

ADSL Broadband lines need micro-filters in order to work. These micro-filters ensure that both signals (telephony and ADSL) can reside on the telephone line without interfering with one another. They also block the ADSL signal from getting to the telephone or other equipment, which would affect the quality of speech. A single micro-filter is provided with all ADSL services from Internal Systems and is plugged into your telephone point that we have upgraded to support ADSL. You may require additional micro-filters if you have telephone extensions from the master socket, these can be ordered from the online order form.

Business Continuity Gateways

We offer a range of Multi-Homed WAN gateways designed specifically to bring outage protection and augmented bandwidth at a price within reach of the small/medium-sized businesses and branch offices. You can use multiple Frame Relay, Leased Lines, and Broadband links in any combination. For example multiple ADSL lines will provide you with greater bandwidth and resilience at a fraction of the cost of more expensive leased lines.

Automatic WAN Failover Protection

The Continuity Gateway protects against WAN outages by intelligently monitoring the health of each WAN link and automatically activating backup links when a failure is detected. It detects both physical and network problems by not only checking connectivity status with the nearest router, but also checks accessibility to multiple configurable target Internet addresses. Email, SNMP traps, and event logs alert administrators of a link failure.
