Telewest Broadband users surf
safely

Telewest Broadband serves up an easier
way to surf safely (23/08/05)
Telewest Broadband has today launched
one of the most comprehensive online security services offered by a British
ISP, helping to curb the misery caused by viruses, hackers and other online
threats for its blueyonder broadband internet customers.
Over 850,000
cable customers will have access to the blueyonder PCguard service from today,
before new internet customers can start receiving it as part of the standard
broadband installation during September.
Unlike security offerings from
many other ISPs, new customers will not have to activate or configure the
applications themselves and the interface is designed to be as user-friendly as
possible. Customers will be protected before they start surfing The package
includes:
- State of the art firewall - Anti-virus software -
Anti-spyware software - Pop-up blocker - Parental control services -
Automatic updates
The service will initially be free to all blueyonder
broadband complete and blueyonder broadband elite customers. Customers taking
the entry-level blueyonder broadband service will get the full package free
until the end of the year, before having the option of paying for some elements
on a monthly basis.
PCguard is intended to become an integral part of
the blueyonder experience and will be the only service of its kind to be
available as a single download for existing customers. Automatic updates will
ensure users can continue to surf more safely.
The PCguard service
comes at a time when research shows nearly three-quarters (74%) of blueyonder
customers are worried about online security.
Eric Tveter, president and
chief operating officer of Telewest Broadband, said: "We have thought very
carefully about meeting the internet safety concerns of our customers. PCguard
provides a simple, yet comprehensive security solution. It's designed to be an
easy, seamless experience, offering complete peace of mind for our
customers."
The services are provided by Radialpoint, a leading provider
of managed internet services for broadband providers. Its security services are
currently available to over 14 million subscribers world-wide.
