Easynet Easynet
signs significant education broadband contract with E2BN
Pupils in
the East of England will be given an enhanced learning experience as
pan-European broadband provider Easynet deploys broadband infrastructure to the
E2BN network which includes 11 Local Authorities and covers nearly 3000 schools
in a £4 million, 5-year contract.
Schools within the E2BN network
will communicate with each other across a bespoke network designed by Easynet
specifically to meet E2BN's requirements, and link to the National Education
Network so they can collaborate and share teaching and learning expertise and
experience. As part of the contract, Easynet will provide broadband
connectivity to the Internet, giving pupils and teachers fast, safe, secure
access to a diversity of multimedia learning content such as video clips and
online lesson plans. Pupils will see exciting, innovative and motivating new
ways of learning in the classroom.
Chris Kastel from E2BN says,
Pupils have different learning styles, and its crucial that we
understand and respond to their needs. Safe, fast Internet connectivity is
transforming the learning experience in the classroom for pupils and teachers
alike and Easynet will now help us to further develop our work with
schools.
David Rowe, Easynets chief executive officer,
understands the importance of an innovative learning environment. He says,
In a world where children are technophiles from an incredibly young age,
its essential to tap into this enthusiasm for technology in the
classroom. A diversity of learning materials is crucial to give pupils variety
in their lessons, and retain their interest and motivation. Broadband enables
this, and adds a new perspective to learning.
The East of England
contract builds on Easynets success in the Education sector. It is the
latest of several major Education contracts for Easynet broadband over the past
18 months, taking the total number of UK schools connected by Easynet broadband
to around 4000. These include schools managed by Reading and Slough Borough
Councils, Surrey County Council and substantial activity in the North East of
England connecting major LEAs in the region.
