Bulldog
broadband Cable & Wireless appoints Emanuele Angelidis Chief
Executive of Bulldog Communications to succeed Richard Greco Cable and
Wireless plc (Cable & Wireless), announced today the
appointment of Emanuele Angelidis (40) to succeed Richard Greco as Chief
Executive of Bulldog Communications, the LLU (Local Loop Unbundling) broadband
and phone company.
Bulldog was founded by Richard Greco in May 2000 and
was purchased by Cable & Wireless in May 2004. Under the terms of the
purchase Mr. Greco agreed to lead the business for its first year with Cable
& Wireless.
Cable & Wireless Chief Executive, Francesco Caio,
said:
Our acquisition of Bulldog in May 2004 was the first step
into broadband. In September 2004 we announced our intention to unbundle an
initial 400 exchanges by December 2005, enabling us to reach some 30 percent of
the UK market.
We are making good progress on that plan and I
want to congratulate Richard and the Bulldog team for their tremendous
achievement so far. In the year since we acquired Bulldog we have expanded from
a London based test market to having exchanges installed and released for
service across major UK cities.
I would like to thank Richard for
his very valuable contribution. His drive and commitment and that of his team
have enabled Cable & Wireless to establish a clear foothold in the
broadband market and to offer consumers a real choice of services and
providers. "
As Bulldog now moves to the next stage of its
development, I am very pleased to announce the appointment of Emanuele
Angelidis as Chief Executive. Emanuele brings valuable experience from his
leadership role at Fastweb. As Chief Operating Officer and then Chief Executive
of Fastweb, from 2000 to 2004 he led the development of the company from
start-up to becoming one of the leading broadband players in
Europe.
Richard Greco commented: I am very proud of what has been
achieved in the year since we joined Cable & Wireless. We introduced the
UKs first DSL based double play (voice and data) service, strengthened
the brand and scaled the network and systems. The company is well positioned
and I am confident that Bulldog will emerge as the UKs leading
alternative DSL broadband services company.
About Bulldog
Communications
Bulldog was established in 2000 as a specialist
provider of broadband services to both consumers and businesses. It has
continually championed new services, recognised by ISPA, the internet trade
body, which has awarded Bulldog Best consumer broadband ISP 2004,
highlighting the fact that Bulldog was pushing back the barriers in the
consumer broadband market to the benefit of their customers.
In
September 2004 Bulldog became the first company in the UK to offer consumers a
combined superfast 4 Mbps broadband plus phone service. Bulldog broadband
services will be available to 30 per cent of homes and businesses across the UK
by the second half of 2005. Bulldog is one of the pioneers of Local Loop
Unbundling (LLU) - which gives it control over the quality of its service right
to the users PC. Bulldog was bought by Cable and Wireless plc in May
2004, and is a wholly-owned subsidiary.
